State Representative Allan Rothlisberg is working on a project to develop a proposed Manhattan Area Technical College satellite campus in Geary County.

Rothlisberg told a Town Hall meeting in Grandview Plaza on Saturday that he met last week with the president of MATC, Rob Edleston on this subject. Rothlisberg stated, “They don’t need a new building. That’s great. ” He added approximately 8,000 square feet of space is needed for each profession that training is provided.
“So what they suggested we do is find a place, and I already talked with Tom Weigand ( Chamber of Commerce CEO ), see about where we can find buildings that have enough space. We’ve talked over a few things so I’m going to work on that.”
Rothlisberg also wants a survey done in the area into the type of skills for which training is needed. “Obviously welding came up because there’s always a need for welders. They talked industrial maintenance. Every apartment complex needs industrial maintenance people there. So these are very marketable skills.”
