The public hearing on the possible closure of Custer Hill Elementary School at Fort Riley after the current school year is on the agenda for a special Geary USD 475 Board of Education meeting on Monday ( April 21 ). The meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. at Custer Hill Elementary School.
The agenda includes a review of procedures for closing a school building, what has been done to get patron input on the process, and a presentation on the proposal for closing with a recommendation by the staff.
Members of the public will be allowed to present input to the Board during the public hearing, with a three-minute time limit for speakers. Written comments will be read by the clerk.
After the public hearing is closed the Board could possibly make a decision on whether or not to close the school. The agenda item reads: “USD 475 Board of Education Shall Determine Whether Custer Hill Elementary School Should be Closed to Improve the School System of USD 475.”
In other business:
–The Board will consider PHS / Coventry as the health insurance coverage provider for the School District. The District staff has recommended that PHS / Coventry be approved as the insurance coverage fro the next school year.
–An executive session is also on the agenda for the board to discuss non-elected personnel.
