New Geary County Assistant Fire Chief and Assistant Emergency Management Director Hired

Curt Janke, 52, is the new Geary County Assistant Fire Chief and Assistant Emergency Management Director.

Janke retired from the Junction City Fire Department on January 1 after serving as a Firefighter / EMT-I for 32 years.  He is now going to work for the County.

“I’m really excited about getting the job. I’ve been working with Garry for a lot of years, and working with the volunteers. I think it’s a very good organization, and I’m looking forward to being more involved with it, and helping to do some of the training.”

Janke’s hiring was announced by Geary County Emergency Management Director and Fire Chief Garry Berges.

During his employment with the Junction City Fire Department Janke obtained his Fire Investigator Certification through the Kansas Fire Marshal’s Office. He has completed the Fire Service Instructor I. Part of his previous duties included presenting quality fire prevention programs, fire safety talks, hand on demonstrations and conducting basic inspections.

Janke has been a Geary County Volunteer Firefighter since 1987, serving the Lyon Township area.  He begins work in his new position Wednesday ( April 16 ).
