The Volunteer of the Year and Distinguished Auxilian awards were announced at the annual Geary Community Hospital Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. 
The 2013 Volunteer of the Year recipient was Angie Cyphers and the Distinguished Auxilian award winner was Shirley Lee. Fifty-six volunteers were recognized for 10,843 hours of service in 2013.
The Volunteer of the Year, Angie Cyphers, dedicated hundreds of hours to the gift shop and setting up the new cash register. Angie worked to enter barcodes for all the merchandise on the new cash register. The Volunteer of the Year is given to the auxilian who has, during the previous year, done the most to further advancement of the GCH Auxiliary.
The Distinguished Auxilian, Shirley Lee, was a registered nurse for 31 years beginning in 1996 and was one of six hospital employees who Geary Bear keepsake quilts for every baby born in the Martha K. Hoover Women’s Center. Shirley works regular shifts on all three information and is a frequent hostess for hospital receptions and open houses as well as a volunteer for the Christmas candy jar project, and the Gift Shop Christmas Open House. Distinguished Auxilian recipients are recognized for their longevity in and contributions to the GCH Auxiliary, and their willingness to remain active.
