Kathy Martin has filed as a republican candidate for the 64th District seat in the Kansas House of Representatives.

Martin, of rural Clay Center is a teacher with more than 30 years of experience in the classroom and previously served eight years on the Kansas State Board of Education representing the 6th District, which covers the same area as the 64th House District.

In a press release announcing her filing Martin said,” It was an honor to serve the people of Clay and Riley counties in public office from 2005 to 2012, and I look forward to working for them again in the Kansas State House.”

Representative Vern Swanson announced last month he would not seek reelection to the 64th District seat.

Martin will be running against Ben Wilson, who lives near Ogden, and filed as a Republican Candidate approximately three weeks ago.

District 64 is comprised of Clay County and parts of Riley County. It includes the cities of Clay Center, Leonardville, Ogden, Riley, Randolph, and Wakefield, plus Fort Riley.

Martin is the Clay County Republican chairperson and is on the Republican State Committee.
