The Geary County Commission agreed to move forward with the creation of a development agreement with Acorns Resort Monday.

Mike Harris, Owner of Acorns Resort, has been working with the county to create the development agreement. The commission agreed to move forward and have the agreement developed using Industrial Revenue Bonds.
“The issuance of IRB’s would involve a reliability of the county only to the extent of revenues to finance the project, which primarily is the lease or debt service payments made by the developer to the county under the IRB lease,” Larry Hicks, Commission Chair explained. “The County would simply be a conduit and the credit of the developer would be the only thing at risk.”
Hicks also explained that in no way will county tax payers be at risk.
Harris’s legal council will develop the agreement over the next week and the Commission will go over and consider the agreement at their meeting next Monday.
