Geary USD 475 officials were anticipating about $2 million in additional revenue for the District after a recent school finance ruling by the Kansas Supreme Court.

But that appears to be changing.
Superintendent Ron Walker said this week the total is expected to be lower. He noted after the Supreme Court decision the District had a computer run showing that USD 475 would receive about $2 million. But all plans developed by House and Senate leadership would deduct funding from that $2 million dollars amount. “The first one is reducing transporting weighting. That by itself would cost the District about $300,000 to $400,000. Then eliminating non-proficient waiting would cost the District almost another $600,000.” Additional areas being removed could total in the $200,000 to $400,000 range.
Walker estimated the District could end up with only about $500,000 of the original $2.1 million dollar total. He added that would only partially make up what the District lost last year in the state adjustments to the local option budget formula.
