The Board of Education is Focusing On the Search for New Superintendent

The Geary USD 475 Board of Education has interviewed five candidates for the Superintendent of Schools position in the district.usd 475

Board President Dr. Ferrell Miller said Monday following the completion of the interviews they have made a selection. “We have to contact that person, and so obviously we can’t announce yet, because we haven’t contacted that person yet. There’s been no motion to hire that person. We’ve only decided on who we would like to offer to.”

Miller said much of the time frame on making a hiring announcement would depend on how soon the candidate could be contacted, a response received, and ensuring that they were on the same page on salary. He noted KASB has been guiding the Board through the process. “And they’re recommending that we try to do this within a 24-hour period if possible. I don’t know that that’s going to be possible, but we’re going to try.”

The five candidates interviewed for the job include Dr. Darren Dennis, Assistant Superintendent of Schools and Director of Learning Services for Garden City, USD 457; Dr. Steve Noble, Superintendent of Schools for Durham-Hillsboro-Lehigh USD 410 in Hillsboro; Dr. Corbin Witt, Executive Director of School Improvement for USD 305 in Salina;  Katina Brenn, the Executive Director of Exceptional Student Services for USD 475;  and Dr. Deb Gustafson, the principal of Ware Elementary School in USD 475.

The Board of Education is seeking a successor to Ron Walker, who is retiring in June.
