Nationally Ranked Adventure Racing Teams to Descend on Junction City

Junction City will host a United States Adventure Racing Association national qualifying race on Saturday that is expected to attract 110 racers from over five states.

Charmion Harris is organizing Saturdays race and explained that there willjcpostfb be two separate races, one 60 miles long and one 25 miles long.

“They will get a map which has checkpoints throughout those miles, and the checkpoints will say whether or not they have to get those on foot, or on bike or by canoe,” Harris said.

Racers from all over the mid-west are expected to attend Saturday’s race including some local racers.

“We have some teams from the Junction City Crossfit gym, then we have some teams from Fort Riley. Also we have a family, a dad and son, that have been racing from Junction City for a number of years that are racing again.”

Both races will start at the Geary County Historical Society located at 6th and Adams in Junction City. The 60 mile break up race will begin a 6:00 a.m. and the 25 mile thumper race will start at noon Saturday. Racers are expected to start crossing the finish line at around 3:30 p.m. back at the Historical Society.
