Could the U.S. Army’s Draw Down go Below Originally Thought?

It is already known that the U.S. Army is looking to draw back it’s troop strength from 570,000 to 490,000, but will it go lower than that?

John Armbrust, Executive Director of the Governors Military Affairs Fort RileyCouncil, was in Washington D.C. last week searching for answers. He explained that beyond the draw down to 490,000 it could go to between 440,000 and 450,000 or even lower.

“But if sequestration takes place there’s consideration being given to go below that, maybe to the 420,000 level,” Armbrust said.

Discussions on those decisions are in process. Armbrust did say that he believes they are evaluating the installations but there isn’t a lot of insight on those evaluations.

“We’re trying to find out the criteria they’ll use to make decisions,” Armbrust explained.

He mentioned that they may hold another community listening session, but one has not been scheduled. A listening session was held last August at Fort Riley.
