Firefighters worked an estimated 25-acre blaze Sunday afternoon on the west side of Milford Lake in Geary County.

Geary County Rural Fire Chief Garry Berges confirmed there were no injuries or structure damage. It was a controlled burn that had gotten out of control.

Berges said the Fragrant Township in Dickinson County provided assistance to Geary County in the effort to battle that fire.

Earlier on Friday night firefighters spent the entire night at the residence of Bryce Fowles in eastern Geary County battling a house fire. Berges indicated Friday evening he thought the structure would be a total loss, but there were no injuries. That fire occurred in an area near wood stove in the southeast corner of the residence.

Firefighters were at the scene overnight because of the difficulty in putting out that fire. Berges reported that a metal roof had been tarred onto a previous roof. That made it difficult to extinguish the blaze.

Riley County, Fort Riley, Grandview Plaza, and Junction City provided assistance to Geary County in handling that fire.
