Nearly a year ago the Army hosted a community listening session at Fort Riley and they are considering whether or not to do it again.

Last years  session provided an overview of the Army’s stationing decision process, and gave community members the opportunity to provide comments and input to the Department of the Army staff.

The Executive Director of the Governor’s Military Council in Kansas John Armbrust just got back from Washington D.C. Thursday and said that if they do hold another listening session it would be considered independent from the one held last year.

“I think the important thing is that we don’t treat it as just another meeting that updates, but actually we need people to come again once it’s scheduled,” Armbrust said.

A meeting date has yet to be scheduled but Armbrust said once it is they will get the word out and need as many people as possible to show up. Last years session attracted over 300 people.

The listening sessions are being held in part to the Army’s plan to reduce it’s size from 570,000 to around 490,000.
