The Sunset Motel in Grandview Plaza is being torn down.
A fire caused approximately $40,000 worth of damage to the motel last
August.
Honey Grant, Vice Mayor said that the city had began the process of condemning the motel prior to the fire though.
“The fire just kind of sealed the whole process that we needed to have it torn down,” Grant said.
Grant did say that the owner of the property is paying to have it torn down herself which is a good thing because otherwise it would have gone on the city’s tax roll.
The owner of the property received has just under 30 days to completely tear down the building.
“She really had to get it done by our last meeting, which was on Tuesday night. The fact that she was already in the process we gave her another 30 days.”
Grant was unsure of what will happen to the land but did mention that the owner does run a type of camping ground there and assumes that will continue.
