Fire Crews Battle Structure Fire on McDowell Creek Road

Geary and Riley County firefighters responded to 8129 McDowell Creek Road for a house fire about four p.m. Friday.

There were no injuries.

As of 7 p.m. firefighters were still battling the blaze, which occurred at the residence of Bryce Fowles.   Geary County Rural Fire Chief Garry Berges said when they arrived on the scene there was smoke coming out of the upper floor. “It’s a two-story limestone building. It’s been here a long time. ”

Berges stated, “Building will probably be a total loss because of the amount of damage and heat to the whole building. ” The metal roof on the structure held the heat in, and the roof sunk in and just held the heat in through the whole time.”

Berges added Junction City, Fort Riley, Riley County, Grandview Plaza, and Geary County firefighters all responded to battle the blaze. The site of the fire was in Geary County just a short distance north of Interstate 70.MCDOWELL CREEK FIRE ONE
