Commissioners Prepare Proposed Changes in District Boundaries

Milford and Milford Township will be shifting county commission districts under a proposal developed by the Geary County Commission.

As part of the effort to equalize population in the three Commission districts Milford and Milford Township would shift from the Second District currently represented by Larry Hicks into the First District currently represented by Ben Bennett.

Bennett said the western part of Geary County will be the general area for his district, “all the

way through the City of Milford is probably the most populated part of that area.” Bennett also confirmed some of Junction City would be in his district. “Most of the new area on the west side of Highway 77 will still be in my district.”

The Second District where Hicks resides would pick up more of west central Junction City.

Most of Fort Riley would now be in the Third District currently represented by Florence Whitebread.

None of the changes are final until a resolution is approved by legal counsel, and adopted by the County Commission.

It should also be noted each commissioner represents the entire county, but they are required to live in the district where they seek election.
