Felts will join the GCH Rural Health Clinic on July 1.  He will assume Dr. Kimberly Wirths family medicine practice in the Medical Arts II, fourth floor.

Felts has been a physician at the hospital for the last 27 years. He began his hospital association on July 27, 1987, when he joined Dr. Don Morgan’s family practice. In 1989, Felts became a full-time emergency department physician in what would become a 25-year career.

Felts said that he would like to have a normal lifestyle, which means no night shifts and no weekends. He also said that a switch back to family medicine would allow him to get to know his patients better and provide the continuity of care he wasn’t able to provide in the emergency department.

“My dad ( from Felts’ home town of Phillipsburg, Kansas ) would like to come and see me on weekends and that hasn’t been possible until now,” Felts said. Felts also has three children he would like to see more: Meghan, 30, Devon, 24, and Alex, 20.
