Fort Riley officials have confirmed a range fire that began on the northwest area of the military
installation, and burned additional areas on the east and west sides of US 77 Highway Tuesday afternoon and evening, was brought under control by 9:30 p.m. It had first been reported about two p.m.
Officials noted authorized military training had been occurring on post in the area at the time of the fire. A total of about 2,500 acres burned, including some of the acreage off post along US 77 Highway near the Riley – Geary County line, and near the K-82 Highway intersection.
There were no injuries, and no structural damage as a result of the blaze.
Riley County firefighters worked the blaze with mutual aid from other Departments.
