The statewide tornado safety drill conducted by emergency managers as part of the state’s severe weather awareness week was held Tuesday afternoon.
In Geary County the Emergency Management Director Garry Berges said as far as officials could determine the emergency warning sirens operated properly. He indicated he was hopeful during the drill people reviewed and practiced where they should go if that becomes necessary. “We also set out our IRIS alert through the notification system for those people who have signed up for it. From what I can tell that thing worked properly also.”
The IRIS Alerts can be received on cell phones, land line telephones, emails, and via text messaging in the event of a storm watch or warning. To sign up for the service in Geary County call the Geary County Emergency Management Office at 238-1290.
