After a cyber attack shut down their internet, Geary USD 475 is slowly getting their internet back.
“Through our vendor and through working with our consultants and
everyone we’ve had here all week, we feel like it might be okay to begin turning groups of schools up on a very gradual, slow basis,” Superintendent Ron Walker said.
The district shut down their internet Thursday due to a cyber attack flooded their network with millions of data. This shutdown affected the public’s ability to access any USD 475 web-based system such as websites, Skyward family and student access, as well as email.
Walker did confirm that at no time was any sensitive data available and breached by the cyber attack.
E-mail was expected to be fully operational by six o’clock Friday evening.
“That’s the first in a group of baby steps that we’re taking. We think that we have resolved some issues that will allow us to go back and start receiving e-mails now which is a plus.”
Who the attacker was is still unknown at this time but they do feel that they have stopped the attack.
