There are still uncertainties surrounding this weekends winter storm that’s expected to hit the area Saturday night into Sunday.

Garry Berges, Geary County Emergency Management Director, explained that because its two separate systems coming together they’re still trying to figure out when they will meet up.

“It’s two different fronts. They’ve got a cold front coming in from the north and then they’ve got this other front with the moisture coming in from the south west. It depends on where these two connect at. That’s were everything is going to happen,” Berges said.

As of just before noon two out of the three models released by the NWS show Geary County in the middle of the heaviest snow. Between three and eight inches of snow is projected.

Extreme cold temperatures mixed with high winds will be another factor in this weekends storm.

“There’s also going to be winds at 15 to 30 mph during this and then once the incident is done the winds are going to die down, but then we’re going to have some very cold temperatures. Probably in the teens to 20’s with wind chills below zero during all this time.”

A winter storm watch remains in effect from Saturday evening through late Sunday night.

The snow is likely to begin between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday evening and last through out Sunday, coming to an end Sunday evening.
