The USD 475 internet service is experiencing problems beyond the districts control and has been shut down.

According to a release from the district, officials have reason to believe there has been a cyber-attack on the system.

“The first outage affected most of the state. The attackers sent out a code that caused one or more computers to repeatedly send out millions of pieces of data to clog our network,” says Superintendent Ron Walker.

“The system experiences an ‘overload of data’ due to the activity of the attackers. The districts firewall has prevented our system from being compromised and through frequent checks we are secure in knowing financial, employee and student data was never breached.”

The district’s firewall secured all the districts data as officials had programmed it. There was never a fear that any data was compromised. The cyber-attack has been limited to information overload.

The issue is currently being resolved with consultants who specialize in these types of attacks. The shutdown has affected the public’s ability to access any USD 475 web-based system such as websites, Skyward family and student access, as well as email.
