The Junction City Fire Departments investigation staff is continuing to investigate the cause and origin of a fire that destroyed the home at 1212 North Clay in Junction City Tuesday evening.

The home is a rental property owned by Cassandra Edwards of Junction City, according to JCFD Battalion Chief Rick Rook, the property was being rented by Ola Gabin.

“At this point the fire is still under investigation by investigation staff here at the department and we’re working diligently to determine the cause and the origin,” Rook said.

Five juveniles were at the residence at the time of the fire, but police reported a good Samaritan assisted in getting all of the children out of the residence before emergency personnel arrived on scene.

There were no injuries.

Rook estimated the damage at $20,000 to $25,000. The residence is considered a total loss.

“The Red Cross was contacted by us last night. They came on scene and they have taken over at least the temporary accommodations of the parties involved,” Rook confirmed.
