The Geary Community Healthcare Foundation presented Geary Community Hospital with a $115,555 gift to fund the Martha K Hoover Women’s Center improvement project at GCH.
Jolana Montgomery-Matney, GCHF Executive Director, presented the
check to the Hospital Tuesday during the hospitals Board of Trustee’s meeting.
The Healthcare Foundation’s annual Glitz fundraiser did raise $53,000 for the women’s center improvement project and Montgomery-Matney said that they had other monies already designated for the project as well.
“But that only totaled $75,000 and they came to us and just asked us if we would consider taking care of the rest of the $40,000 and we approved that yesterday (Monday),” Montgomery-Matney said.
“We birthed the women’s center back in ’95 and ’96, it was our project with our capital campaign. To me it’s just one of the things that we should be doing and we need to bring our women’s center to the same look that the rest of the hospital has.”
The project focus’s more on cosmetic upgrades than actual construction work.
The women’s center has not received a cosmetic upgrade since it was built Montgomery-Matney explained,”ant it was all the teal and the peach. It is time to make changes. It was just getting kind of, you know that older look.”
The goal is to have the project completed by the end of summer. Because the hospital is constantly delivering babies and that’s not going to stop, the improvements will be done one room at a time.
