Multiple Accidents Reported in Manhattan and Riley County

A total of 15 accidents were reported in both Manhattan and Riley County Thursday morning due to the winter weather.

Matt Droge, Public Information Officer with the Riley County rcpd fourPolice Department told JCpost.com that the roads started getting slick around 7 a.m.,”more recently we’ve started to see snow in the Manhattan area that could impair people’s ability to drive safely.”

Of the 15 accidents reported Thursday morning, two resulted in a medical transport.

“Those injuries didn’t appear to be life threatening, however, most of the accidents we responded to were fairly minor,” Droge said.

The accidents were spread out throughout Manhattan and along the K-18 corridor.

“Any time the roads are slick, whether it be ice, snow or rain, we always suggest to reduce your speed at which you travel and increase the following distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. That will give your car more time to stop if you need to avoid an accident,” Droge said.

As of just after 11 a.m. there were no other accidents being reported around Riley County and Manhattan.
