Local Law Enforcement Experienced Busy Thursday Morning

An early morning blast of ice, sleet and snow created treacherous driving conditions across the area.

“We had to get out there and the roadways were slick, they were slushy,” Sheriff Tony Wolf said. “This came through real fast, real quick and it caused a real bad situation for a short period of time.”

There were very few injuries reported and none of them were considered serious.

The short blast did catch the Sheriff’s Department a little off guard Wolf said.

“We were expecting it earlier this morning, hopefully before the work rush and everything, but it came through when it did.”

One positive was that when the weather moved through it was right at shift change and Wolf said he had plenty of officers on hand to respond.

The Kansas Highway Patrol did respond to an accident on Hwy. 77 in Junction City that resulted in an injury transport.

Autumn O’Dell, 19, of Illinois was traveling south on Hwy. 77 when she lost control, over corrected and entered the east ditch. The vehicle struck the embankment and rolled.

According to the KHP crash log, O’Dell was wearing a seat belt. She was transported to Geary Community Hospital.
