Three Defendants in a Geary County Murder Case Made First Appearances Friday

Three people facing murder related charges appeared in Geary County District Court Friday morning.

They were taken into custody following the discovery of a woman’s body, believed by authorities to be Amanda Clemons, at a rural Geary County location Wednesday night.

Steve Opat, Geary County Attorney, confirmed the defendants in the case had first appearances in court.

“Marryssa Middleton, Drexel Woody and Larry Anderson all appeared after being arrested by the Junction City Police Department for conspiracy, aggravated kidnapping and first degree murder,” Opat said. “Their bonds were set each at $1 million cash surety and initial hearings are scheduled for the 20th of February at nine o’clock.”

Formal court charges have not yet been filed in the case.

Anderson, a Manhattan resident, was arrested on suspicion of 1st degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, and conspiracy.

Middleton, from Colorado, was taken into custody on the same counts, while Woody was arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting a first degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, and conspiracy.

Authorities have not released information on a motive in the slaying. An autopsy is scheduled on the victim Saturday in Kansas City.

Clemons was last seen Friday night, February 7th, being placed into a silver in color vehicle outside the Budget Host Motel in Junction City. Police had been seeking public assistance in order to check on her welfare.
