In order to market Junction City and Geary county better to companies that will follow the National Bio and Agro Defense Facility when it moves to Manhattan from Plum Island, New York, the Junction City EDC may need to travel to New York and meet with the companies that are currently there.

That was the message from the Junction City EDC Advisory Committee during their meeting Tuesday.

Ben Kitchens, Committee Chair, explained the first order of business will be to contact the chambers around Plum Island and try to gain information from them.

“There’s 26 chambers of commerce’s in that area around Plum Island,” Kitchens explained. “Out of those 26 we ought to be able to find two or three or four that would be forth coming with information that could help us set a plan for when we go back their to execute.”

Kitchens said that he knows that most of the business’s around Plum Island won’t relocate here but, “the new NBAF in Manhattan will need similar type business’s and we hope to be able to use that knowledge gain to help us in our strategy to market NBAF.”

Susan Jagerson, EDC Specialist, was directed to begin researching whether or not the trip to New York would be beneficial.
