Wildcats Look Ahead to KU After Downing Texas

The Kansas State Wildcats have a quick turn around after Saturday’s 74-57 upsetĀ of #15 Texas, taking on #8 Kansas Monday at Bramlage Coliseum.

The last time these two teams met up was in Lawrence on January 10th and the Jayhawks ran away with a 86-60 win over the Wildcats.

Will the guys be rested having just a day between games? Coach Weber said that he thought they split up the playing time pretty well against Texas. Kansas will also have the quick turnaround playing West Virginia Saturday.”They get done later and they have to travel here, not a long drive but a little bit of a drive. I hope were alright because against them they just have so much size, so much talent, so many people, we have to be all hooked up and have everyone play well if we’re going to be successful,” Weber said.Preparing for Kansas with such a short turn around won’t be as difficult because the Wildcats have seen them already.

“We have a whole day, we’ve already played them. Bill (Self) does a good job but he’s got so many players, so many bodies. I compare it to the Packers, old sweep. You knew it was coming, can you stop it? You know what they’re going to do, do we have the energy, the bodies to stop it? We’ll see Monday night.”

In Monday’s game Weber said the team has got to get to the basket,” We’ve got to get some layups. You can’t get transition unless you get stops. We’ve got to steal some baskets because they’re just so big and they make it so tough on you.”

Marcus Foster struggled to score when they were in Lawrence last but Saturday he led the team with 34 points. The difference in Lawrence for Foster was that he had never really faced a defense that scouted him so much. “I over pressed myself about it, I forced the issue to much and played to selfish, so I just have to relax and keep playing how I play.”

K-State’s defense will need to improve this time around against Kansas according to Thomas Gipson.

“We need to play team defense, we need to rebound better. I think overall you know itsĀ just the defensive part,” Gipson said.

On offense Gipson said they’ll need to share the ball better. “We were just to stagnant. We were not moving and not cutting just waiting on something to happen, everyone was ball watching. It can’t be like that Monday; we’ve all got to share the ball.”

The 279th Dillons Sunflower Showdown will tip off at 8:00 p.m. Monday night at Bramlage Coliseum.
