The Junction City Blue Jays captured the Centennial League wrestling championship Saturday night in Manhattan.
The Blue Jays finished with 197.5 points, and had six league champions in their weight classes. They included Gary Joint at 113 pounds, Jake Bazaan 138, Andrew Millsap 152, Mikah Felton 170, Devonte Wilson 182, and Kayne Hutchinson at 220 pounds.
Junction City coach Bob Laster thought it was a tremendous performance by the Blue Jays. “Just shows what type of team I have, and what type of guys on our team. ” He stated that the entire season the Blue Jays had been facing adversity and other types of things. “And this team is always trying to find a way to win, and that’s what they did today. I had guys that stepped it up for us.”
Other highlights for Junction City included a second place finish by Freshman Aryrus Jones at 145 pounds, and third place finishes by Gabe Padilla at 120, Gavin Kroeger 132, and Kamari Smith at 160 pounds.
