The 2013 crime stats for Junction City have come in and the city saw a decrease in part one crimes last year.

Tim Brown, Police Chief, explained that part one crimes were the lowest since the police department has figures on since 1989.

Part one crimes are categorized by violent and property crimes.

“Violent crimes are murder, rape, robery, aggravated assault and battery. Property crimes are burglery, theft and motor vehicle theft,” Brown explained.

In 1989 Junction City had 3,202 part one crimes. In 2013 the city had only 915 part one crimes. From 2012 the city was down over 10 percent in crime.

“I think that adabag had somthing to do with kind of knocking the criminal element on their backside for a little while. It’s good news for Junction City that crime is down, significantly last year, and we’ve made these vast improvements in our city since 1989.”

Junction City did have two more homicides in 2013 compared to 2012, three homicides were reported in 2013. ForcEable rape was up by one overall for the year. Robberies were down by one, aggravated assaults were down by 22, burglaries were down by 49, from 177 in 2012 to 128 in 2013. Thefts were down 622 in 2012 and 598 in 2013. Auto theft was down five for the total year.

“Total part one crimes 915, compared to 1,013 for an overall decrease in crime by 10.7 percent,” Brown confirmed.
