Due to the extreme wind chill factors and folks still digging out from Tuesday’s snow storm Geary USD 475 will be on a 2-hour delay Thursday.

Ron Walker, Superintendent, confirmed the delay late Wednesday afternoon.

“Temperatures are going to be relatively cold early, and I think if we do a two hour delay that will kind of avoid some of that. Parents are welcome to bring their students to school, which would be great, or if they want to keep them at home they just need to let us know that’s what they’re going to do and that would be fine as well,” Walker said.

Side streets within the city have been the problem but Walker said city crews plan to work on those later tonight. He did emphasize that the district does have a bad weather policy on attendance.

” When we have really, really bad weather and we’re still having school, if someone feels they cannot get out or it’s to dangerous to get out, all they need to do is just call in and let us know that and we’ll take care of the attendance there.”

The National Weather Service out of Topeka has issued Wind Chill Advisory from 9 p.m. Wednesday to noon Thursday. Temperatures will drop below zero overnight and combined with the wind chills could produce bitterly cold wind chills between 15 degrees below and 23 degrees below zero.
