The Geary County Transfer Station closed at one p.m. Tuesday due to the winter storm.
Geary County Public Works Director Dennis Cox said the trailer availability had stopped due to the conditions on I-70. “We got notice that the conditions were in a manner that those high profile trailers that haul the solid waste as well as the conditions at the landfill are in a manner that they are closing, and won’t be delivering any waste out or any empty trailers in. ”
Cox added as a result Geary County had no choice but to close their facility.
The regional landfill utilized by Geary County is in Shawnee County.
