Junction City Public Works Director Ray Ibarra confirms a water main break that occurred on
Tuesday in the 200 block of E. 9th Street has been repaired. He said it was on a four inch line that went to a fire hydrant.
Low water pressure and no water were problems.
Ibarra said some of the businesses on East Chestnut were impacted about mid-afternoon, and between about 3:45 and 4:30 p.m. water was off at the Geary County Detention Center, the Junction City Police Department, and in at least some locations in Grandview Plaza. All repairs had been completed by 4:40 p.m. and water service was restored.
There have been multiple water main breaks in Junction City recently, including three this week. Ibarra stated, “With the weather the way it is, freezing and the thawing, those things can cause some undue pressure and strain on the piping. In particular it happened on East 9th. We’ve had three of them right there in the last week.”
