Geary County rural firefighters responded to 141 fire calls in 2013. That is down substantially from 210 reported in 2012.
Garry Berges, Rural Fire Chief, reported that first responder calls in the Milford Township totaled 55 in 2013, compared to 58 in 2012. Those numbers are included in the total fire runs.
The average response time was 7 minutes, 33 seconds in 2013 compared to 8 minutes, 16 seconds in 2012.
The total hours spent at fires last year was calculated at 878.79 compared to 1,227.70 hours in 2012.
There were seven building fires, nine vehicle, and 40 grass or brush fires during the past year. The numbers for 2012 were 12 building, 14 vehicle, and 85 grass or brush fires.
