This years New Year baby at Geary Community Hospital is being considered a miracle.

Sean DeMario Rivera-Smith is considered by his mother and father, Gianna Rivera and Sean Smith both of Junction City, to be their miracle baby.

Smith was told by Doctors that for medical reasons he was unable to have children and Rivera wasn’t aware that she could have kids because of failed attempts in the past.

“When we found out I was pregnant we didn’t really believe it,” Rivera said. “We took a couple of tests and then yeah, apparently I was.”

Neither one expected to have the first baby born at GCH in 2014 because Rivera’s due date was December 26, 2013. Rivera gave birth to the 7 pound , 11 ounce, 20 1/4 inch baby boy on New Years day.

“I actually thought he was going to come before Christmas,” Smith said. “He was a little late. They just wanted to get him out so there wouldn’t be any complications between him and the mom.”

Joe Stratton, GCH CEO, presented Smith and Rivera a $200 Wal-Mart gift card and a Geary Bear stuffed animal Friday morning at the Martha K. Hoover Women’s Health Center.
