The day after Christmas is typically a day where customers flock to the stores to return gifts, however, over the past few years gift cards have reduced the number of returns.

According to Steve Bussman, Junction City Wal Mart Store Manager, the returns have decreased because of gift card sales over the past five or so years,”instead of just buying merchandise just to buy it and not knowing what their family member or friend wants. It’s really cut down on the returns we have from year to year.”

Bussman said popular gifts that shoppers usually come in and get the day after Christmas include DVD’s, Bluray’s, video games and gaming system accessories.

Other popular items include holiday merchandise that has been marked down.

“All of the holiday decorations and wrapping paper that we had left went 50% off this morning. There’s some select toys that went 25% off and obviously our Christmas apparel went 50% off,” Bussman explained.
