Multiple concepts for a new comprehensive plan for Junction City and Geary County were presented Thursday night after multiple public work sessions.
RDG Planning and Design hosted a public work session Wednesday night in
Junction City to develop concepts for the new comprehensive plan. Out of that work session and others held in the past RDG put together some concepts that they will present to the city and planning commissions.
One of the concepts developed included traffic and development and site planing ideas for the shopping area near 6th and Eisenhower in Junction City.
Marty Shukert, Community and Regional Planning Principal with RDG, said,”the area is a major activity cluster but has some real problems functionally.”
Dave Yearout, Junction City/Geary County Zoning Administrator, explained that the concept doesn’t call for a major investment,”The biggest thing is re-striping their parking lots and re-building the curb line along sixth street. It changes the whole dynamics of that.”
Another concept presented deals with the undeveloped residential lots in Junction City. Yearout explained that the concept would be to look at those lots as an asset. “More of a positive that can be managed and marketed in a fashion to actually get people actually building on those lots and get houses there and people there.”
RDG will continue to gather information and develop other concepts that they plan to present to the city and planning commissions for review and feedback at a later date.
