(Update 9:48 a.m.) Both lanes of E Poyntz Ave are now open, from McCall to Tuttle Creek Blvd.
(Update 9:02 a.m.) Eastbound E Poyntz will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time. Westbound lane is now open.
(Update 8:14 a.m.) Eastbound E Poyntz is still closed at this time.
Statement from Public Information Officer Matt Droge – “At 6:02 a.m. the Riley County Police Department and surrounding agencies responded to a disturbance call at the Quality Inn here in Manhattan. The disturbance call was regarding acts of violence. The suspect was taken into custody by the police, and no officers or innocent bystanders were injured. There is no further risk of increased danger to the public.”
Officer Droge has since said in a media correction on Facebook that the suspect is not at RCPD at this time.
(Update 7:09 a.m.) Highways are still closed at this time.
(Update 6:29 a.m.) – There is confirmation that the investigation has been at the Quality Inn at 150 E Poyntz. Traffic is shut down from E Poyntz and Tuttle Creek Blvd to McCall Road. There have been unconfirmed reports of multiple injuries at the scene, and that the gunman has been stopped as well.

(Original 6:05 a.m.) – Riley County Police Department and Pottawatomie County are responding to reports of possible multiple gun shots fired outisde, around the 1000 block of East Poyntz.
Traffic will be blocked from McCall to East Poyntz.
Please avoid the area to allow for first responders to handle the situation.
