Request for Conditional Use Permit to Go to County

A request for a conditional use permit to reopen and operate a rock quarry goes to the Geary County Commission Monday.

Jim Didas wants to use rock from the former quarry site adjacent to Munson Road just west of Junction City  for projects on Fort Riley and in the local area.

Last month the Metropolitan Planning Commission recommended the permit request be denied. Numerous residents who live near the quarry had opposed the granting of the conditional use permit, citing concerns ranging from the potential impact of detonation on water wells to noise and dirt.

The County Commission will make the final decision.

The issue is on the Commission meeting agenda at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Geary County Office Building.
