A Junction City Police Officer and two Salina residents were presented with Life Saving Awards during Tuesday nights Junction City City Commission meeting.
Officer Brad Diel along with Ace Thompson and Monte McWilliams, both of Salina, were presented the Life Saving Awards for their actions during an early morning stabbing in Junction City that occurred on August 10th.
Officer Diel was the first emergency responder on the scene of the stabbing. He was able to take the suspect, Jason Babylon into custody without anyone else sustaining injuries. Babylon allegedly stabbed four individuals during a verbal altercation. Investigators later learned that before Diel arrived Thompson and McWilliams both came to the aid of the victims providing medical care that directly saved the life of at least one of the victims according to Tim Brown, Police Chief.
“It was touch and go for two of them I can tell you, they had to be taken to Topeka that night,” Brown said.
McWilliams passed away November 21st for reasons unknown to jcpost.com and his father Randy McWilliams accepted the award in honor of his son.
“Many, many days he talked to me about this and he was very proud of what he was able to do,” Randy McWilliams said.
Babylon was charged in Geary County District Court on four counts of Aggravated Battery.
The four victims have reportedly recovered from their injuries.
