Three changes were made to the 2013 Junction City budget during Tuesday nights City Commission meeting.

Unexpected revenue allowed the city to amend the budgets to to the Library fund, Bluffs RHID District and Special Law Enforcement.

The special law enforcement budget was initially set at $318,984 however due to unforeseen drug forfeitures more money was taken in then expected increasing the budget by $600,000.

Cheryl Beatty, City Finance Director, explained that when the budget is made they plug in an estimated amount that they believe they will receive from drug forfeitures,”But when we do get new monies in we need to reallocate them.”

“To technically legally reallocate them I was going to go over budget. So I needed to have this on the books so I could meet state statutes,” Beatty said.

With the Library fund unanticipated cash carry from 2012 and unanticipated tax revenue increased the budget $40,000 from $813,093 to $853,093.

Unanticipated tax collection from TIF received for debt payments increased the Bluffs RHID District budget $105,000 from $295,000 to $400,000.

” So this unexpected revenue is good news and it is being used to pay debt without going to the debt services,” Commissioner Mick McCallister said about the Bluffs RHID District increase. “It’s a good thing for the taxpayer.”
