Fort Riley Kicked Off Holiday Season With Operation Santa Claus

The ribbon was cut Wednesday morning on Operation Santa Claus at Fort Riley.

The annual fundraising program is in it’s 29th year and provides toys for families within the area with children who may not be able to provide toys during this holiday season.

CSM Terry Gardner, Garrison CSM, explained,”Last year Operation Santa Claus purchased over $85,000 worth of toys and assisted over 730 families.”

Gardner said that the continued success of the program depends on the generosity of the citizens of Fort Riley and the communities within the Flint Hills region.

The program is seeking donations of unwrapped toys in the $15 to $20 price range for children, ages two to 16 years.

During the ribbon cutting ceremony Maj. Gen. Paul Funk, Fort Riley Commanding General said,” I don’t think there is anybody else that gives so generously of their time and effort as this community.”

Following the ceremony those in attendance were given the opportunity to see Santa’s workshop that has been set up as the headquarters for Operation Santa Claus.
