On November 3, 2013, the Riley County Police Department using the IRIS Alert System as well as social media announced that they were looking for a black male with facial tattoos who was involved in a police investigation.
RCPD encouraged the public to call 911 if they came into contact with this subject along the K18 highway. Prior to this public message RCPD responded to a complaint of criminal restraint, criminal trespass, aggravated intimidation of a victim or witness, theft of a motor vehicle, and domestic battery in the north east portion of Manhattan, Kansas.
Upon arrival police found the suspect, Devoris Newsom, 27, of Junction City, Kansas, to have left the scene and were able to catch up to him shortly thereafter. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop and were unable to get Newsom to stop. This began a pursuit which ultimately ended when Newsom crashed his vehicle and fled on foot in Geary County.
With the assistance of the Geary County Sheriff’s Office and the Kansas Highway Patrol Newsom was located and taken into custody. He was arrested at approximately 10:20 AM on November 3rd.
Newsom was being held at Riley County Jail at the time of this report in lieu of $19,000.00 bond. The victim information for this case is being withheld, due to the nature of these crimes.
