The Geary USD 475 Board of Education has approved a travel request for the Junction City High School marching band, chamber orchestra, and JC Singers to travel to the 2015 Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The travel party will include approximately 250 people, including students and adults. Band Director TJ Taylor said five charter busses will be used to transport the group. He talked about activities on the trip. “It involves the marching band in a field show competition. They don’t do a parade at the Sugar Bowl. Instead they do standstill concerts at the gazebo there at Jackson Square, so that’s where the orchestra and JC Singers will get an opportunity to perform as well.”
Taylor said there will be a mass band performance at halftime of the Sugar Bowl football game. “All the bands that are there for the field show competition will be a part of that, and I think that there’s going to be a way for our Orchestra students Singers also to be a part of that halftime production.
There will also be time for sightseeing and educational activities during the trip, which is scheduled from Dec. 28, 2014 to Jan. 3, 2015.
Taylor confirmed each person making the trip will need to raise $1,100.
The JCHS Marching Band has a history of making trips of this sort. Over the years the Band has traveled to the Cotton Bowl three times, Fiesta Bowl twice, Liberty Bowl two times, and the Music City Bowl once.
