The state wants to assume control of operations at Corps of Engineer lake recreation areas in Kansas.
Governor Brownback has sent a letter to the Pentagon.
At Milford Lake, R.J. Harms, Project Operations Manager for the Corps of Engineers, said the letter appears to be an initial contact. “Apparently a couple of Wildlife and Parks employees in state headquarters met with some Corps officials earlier this summer, had some brief discussion, early discussion. I think the state maybe just wanted to make contact at the headquarters level in Washington, and see if there could be any discussion that could grow from this. We don’t have any details at all on how any kind of a plan would be put together, and what it would take to do anything like this.”
Harms said at Milford Lake the Corps operates three Class A campgrounds, two Class C campgrounds, and two day use areas.
