Riley County police are reporting two arrests as a result of their investigations into ongoing property crime in the Manhattan and Riley County area.

The RCPD said early Sunday morning Cole Smykle, 21, Fort Riley and Raymond Burrus, 20, Junction City were arrested in the 700 block of Osage in Manhattan. Both were arrested on suspicion of burglary, and interference with law enforcement.

As a result of the arrests more than 11 other vehicle burglary investigations were tied to these men and a good portion of past goods that were allegedly stolen have been recovered.

Police said the arrests were the result of the work of officers and detectives as well as the Crime Intelligence Unit’s ability to forecast crime through statistical data.

This form of evidence based policing ( Initiative: Laser Point ) was the subject of a Riley County Police Department and Kansas State University Sociology Department collaboration which got them international recognition and Excellence in Law Enforcement Reserch: Bronze award earlier this month at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
