Security at the Geary County Courthouse will undergo a big change January 2.

Sheriff Tony Wolf said it’s due to the conceal carry legislation approved in Kansas and other statutory changes.  “What I’m going to do come January is secure the entrances to District Court. There will be one entrance in. It will be the lower entrance on the west side of the building. ”

Wolf added those entering the building will go through a security check and metal detectors. All bags and items coming into the building will be searched.

You will be able to exit the Courthouse by multiple doors, including the large glass front doors.

There will be security staff moving throughout the building as well.  “We’ll also have security staff within the building floating around through the building, through courtrooms and stuff. The landscape will remain the same, but there are going to be a lot more personnel in there.”
