The “State of the Lake 2013” will be held Thursday Oct. 17 in Wakefield.

This meeting hosted by K-State Research and Extension, will focus on the need to protect water quality, recreation, and water supply storage at Milford Lake. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Wakefield Methodist Church.

The main discussion points will include:

–How are water quality problems impacting recreation, water storage and other uses at Milford Lake?

–What’s causing these problems?

–What’s the potential for more outbreak of blue-green algae?

–What can farmers and city residents do to protect water quality in the lake?

Tom Stiles and Trevor Flynn from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment will make a presentation, as will R. J. Harms and Marvin Boyer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The Wakefield Methodist Church is located at 406 Sixth St., Wakefield. A free dinner buffet will be provided.
