Chapman will soon have it’s own grocery store again. Doug Thompson is currently constructing an 8,000 square foot building on his property on the north side of Chapman, in the Kansas Auto Racing complex. It will be the future home of Chapman Food Mart.
“It will have it’s own deli and meat market area, fresh vegetables, dry goods and it will be a full service grocery store open seven days a week,” Thompson said.
The completion date has been set for December 15th, however, Thompson said, “Realistically we think we will beat that because were at the stage right now where the red iron is up for the building and the siding will start coming up. Were getting the outside landscaping area ready to go so we can asphalt it while the weather is still good.”
Currently Chapman residents are having to drive to either Abilene or Junction City for groceries and Thompson said that the communities response so far to having a grocery store in town has been tremendous.
