Corps of Engineers Employees Remain on Furlough

About 90 percent of the 350,000 Department of Defense civilian employees that were furloughed following the partial government shutdown returned to work Monday.

The employees that returned for work did not include those employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

RJ Harms, Operations Project Manager at Milford, said Monday that the weekends recall of civilian employees does not apply to them,” That only applies to folks that work directly with the armed forces and with the military. Were considered to be the civil work side of the department of defense.”

Nearly 750 civilian employees at Fort Riley did return to work on Monday.

All areas of Milford Lake operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers remain closed at this time. Harms along with one maintenance employee are the only ones currently reporting to work. He said that currently a lot of the business operations for the corps at Milford Lake are on stand still.
